PeachBuzz
A tool for facilitating mother-daughter conversations
Peach Buzz is a project done in collaboration with three other students, Sarah Gorman and Sarah Read from the School of Design, and Catherine Carle from Heinz College of Public Policy & Management. With the help of a local physician in Pittsburgh, we designed an online network for daughters to air questions to their parents about sexual health through the medium of text messaging and for those parents gain access the right information from reliable resources. This information would then be analyzed and reported to health care professionals to create larger policy changes within the realm of sexual health and young girls.
Wireframes
The Peach Buzz website allows mothers to log in, with a name and password given to them at the doctor's office, and access resources they can use to give their daughters the information about any and all topics that deal with puberty and sexual health in an informed and well-rounded manner. They also can see any other questions that have been asked through the Peach Buzz network.
The Peach Buzz main site has three sections: Resources, the Question feed, and Top Tens. The resources column allows mothers to see a variety of reliable resources on different topics. The question feed shows a live feed of all the questions currently being asked in the Peach Buzz network. Mothers can then “vote up” any questions they see that match those their own daughters have asked. That then generates the top ten section, which shows the most voted and top answered questions at the time.
When a mother selects a different topic on the Resource column, Peach Buzz provides her with a variety of reliable resources and websites to give her the information she needs to relay back to her daughter. Mothers can choose which sources they find most helpful or relevant to them, that way their answers are still catered to their own, individual parenting style. Peach Buzz only supplies the best sources with the right information, so there are no confusions or miscommunications between mother and daughter
Peach Buzz Analytics is a site where doctors and other professionals can see analyzed data from Peach Buzz’s main site. Analytics would provide graphs and charts of information taken from the questions being asked to identify any trends and patterns that may be occurring. Each graph will be tagged with different topics it pertains to, so doctors can see the most recent graphs as well as search for any topic they may be interested in.
